KARACHI: In the first nine months of the current calendar year, the complainants received nearly Rs1 billion in relief from the Banking Mohtasib of Pakistan (BMP).
The growing number of online frauds, on the other hand, are hurting the State Bank of Pakistan’s efforts to digitize the entire payment system.
A press release from BMP states that 18,836 complaints were resolved between January and September.
BMP received 21,904 new complaints during this time, with 5,277 of them coming through the Prime Minister’s Portal. The numbers indicate a rise in complaints compared to the same time period in 2023, when BMP handled 18,431 cases and provided relief totaling Rs972.33 million. Customers’ growing concerns about banking, particularly in light of the rise in digital and online banking fraud, are reflected in the rise in complaints.
