A police official stated that on Wednesday, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a police van in the Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, injuring four officers, including the post’s chief.
Addressing Dawn.com, the representative to the Buner locale cop, Israr Ahmad, said, “A police vehicle was on its standard watch in the Nawagai region, and when it arrived at the Kankai Chowk, an IED detonated.”
According to the official from the police, the attack injured the in-charge of the police post at Ambela, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASP) Shahid Zada, the driver, Constable Noor Mohammad, Constable Iftikhar Ali, and Constable Altaf Ahmad.
“The harmed cops have been moved to a medical clinic nearby and their condition is steady,” he said.
Ahmed added that after the attack, the police started a search operation in the area, which was led by the District Police Officer (DPO), Shah Hassan, to find the person who tried to kill the police.
This is just the latest in a long line of attacks on checkpoints and police officers, mostly in KP and Balochistan.
As a police team returned from the burned-out school in Meragai, unidentified suspects torched a government primary school in Buner in September and detonated an IED. That incident didn’t result in any injuries.
In the meantime, on Monday, five militants dressed in burqas and suicide vests were killed in an attack, and four police officers became martyrs in an effort to thwart a gun and bomb attack on the Iqbal Shaheed Police Lines in Bannu.
Pakistan has recently seen an ascent in psychological oppression occurrences, especially in KP and Balochistan. Assaults have heightened after the restricted Tehreek-I-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) broke a delicate truce concurrence with the public authority in 2022 and promised to target security powers.
