SHARJAH: In a tense nine-run victory on Sunday, holders Australia overcame India’s absence of captain Alyssa Healy to secure a place in the Women’s T20 World Cup semifinals.
Tahila McGrath drove six-time champs Australia in Sharjah after Healy exited with a foot injury endured batting in a triumph over Pakistan on Friday.
After electing to bat first, Australia scored 151-8, with Grace Harris, Healy’s replacement, scoring the most runs with 40, and McGrath scoring 32.
India responded with 142-9, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur hitting an unbeaten 54 as she put on a fourth-wicket stand of 63 with Deepti Sharma, who made 29, and took the fight to the final over. India finished the match on 142-9.
