Managua: Nicaragua announced on Friday that it would end diplomatic ties with Israel, describing the Israeli government as “genocidal” and “fascist.”
Nicaragua’s government said in a statement that Israel’s attacks on Palestinian territories were to blame for the break in relations.
A resolution urging Nicaragua to take action to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the Gaza conflict had been passed earlier in the day by the nation’s congress.
The Nicaraguan government stated that the conflict “extends against Lebanon and gravely threatens Syria, Yemen, and Iran” at this point.
Following Iran’s attack on Israel with a barrage of missiles on October 1, the Middle East is on high alert for further regional escalation. Iran backs Lebanon-based assailant bunch Hezbollah, which Israel has designated in a progression of ongoing dangerous assaults.
The government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega is supported by Iran as well.
