French President Emmanuel Macron said he would fight to make sure that Emily, the main character in the Netflix hit series Emily in Paris, comes back to Paris after her time in Rome.
We will fight valiantly. What’s more, we will request that they stay in Paris! In a Wednesday interview, Macron stated to Variety magazine, “Emily in Paris in Rome doesn’t make sense.”
The fourth time of the series saw American exile Emily — played by entertainer Lily Collins — move from Paris to Rome for work.
Brigitte Macron, Macron’s wife, made a cameo appearance in the previous season due to the show’s meteoric rise since its debut in 2020 during the COVID lockdowns.
“She was very happy to do it, and I was extremely proud of her.” Regarding his wife’s cameo, Macron stated, “I think it was a very good moment for her, even though it was only a few minutes.”
“I believe it’s great for the picture of France. He continued, “Emily in Paris is extremely attractive to the country.”
The show has been praised for its idealized and romanticized portrayal of life in Paris, but it has also been criticized for avoiding the poorer parts of the city and for frequently ignoring the reality of life in the capital.
