After releasing a candle with artwork that had a striking resemblance to a particular white supremacist group, ath & Body Works, the fragrance and candle shop that everyone frequents while on vacation in the United States, issued an apology.
The Snowed In candle, which was originally intended to look like a paper snowflake but instead resembled the white hoods of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), has now been removed from the store’s website and physical locations.
For the uninitiated, the KKK is a white supremacist group that is known for committing hate crimes based on race. The radical gathering was known to have lynched Individuals of color and carrying out other terrible can’t stand wrongdoings. Since their white hoods are so well-known in the United States, it’s even more odd that the brand didn’t notice the similarities.
A spokesperson for Bath & Body Works stated in a statement that was provided to The Cut, “At Bath & Body Works, we are committed to listening to our teams and customers, and we are committed to fixing any mistakes we make, even those that are unintentional like this one.” This statement was provided to The Cut. We apologize to anybody we’ve irritated and are quickly attempting to have this thing eliminated and assessing our interaction proceeding.”
The candle was taken out of stores within 48 hours after it caught the eye of netizens, who couldn’t believe their eyes. We don’t blame them, because who goes candle shopping expecting to see hate symbols?
