Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim met with Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, where they discussed bilateral strategic interests, regional security, and defense cooperation.
In a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim praised the role of Pakistan’s armed forces in regional peace and stability, acknowledging their professional expertise and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
The ISPR noted that the Malaysian Prime Minister emphasized the need to enhance bilateral relations, particularly military ties, between the two brotherly nations.
Additionally, Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim extended an invitation to General Syed Asim Munir to visit Malaysia.
It is important to mention that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Pakistan on a three-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on October 3.
Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif warmly welcomed him at Noor Khan Airbase. The Malaysian Prime Minister was given a salute by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army and was honored with a 21-gun salute. Children dressed in traditional attire also presented flowers to him.
On the previous day, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif held a one-on-one meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, where they covered bilateral, regional, and international issues, including challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah.
It was further noted that the meeting addressed mutual interests, focusing on enhancing cooperation across various sectors and discussing a comprehensive strategy in this regard.
Earlier that day, President Asif Ali Zardari awarded Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim the Nishan-e-Pakistan in recognition of his support for Islamic causes and his status as a close friend of Pakistan.
