The Statistics Bureau has reported an increase in the inflation rate in the country over the past week.
According to the bureau’s report, the annual inflation rate has been recorded at 13.18%. There was a rise in the prices of 21 essential items, while 10 items saw a decrease. During this period, the prices of 20 essential goods remained stable.
Notable increases were seen in the prices of tomatoes, onions, chicken, wheat flour, garlic, chickpeas, and mung beans. Additionally, the costs of LPG, firewood, cigarettes, and matches have also risen. Conversely, prices for some items, including eggs, sugar, bananas, and chickpeas, have decreased.
The report further indicates that the prices of jaggery, basmati rice, lentils, diesel, and petrol have also dropped. Year-on-year, chickpeas have become 65% more expensive, onions 44%, and tomatoes 42%. Compared to last year, powdered milk and beef have increased by 25%, while chicken prices have risen by 24.90%.
In the last year, mung beans have risen by 16%, salt by 15%, and gas charges by a staggering 570%. However, during the same period, wheat flour has decreased by 35.67% and red chili by 20%. Rice, lentils, petrol, and diesel are also among the items that have seen a drop in prices annually.
