The Islamabad High Court has issued a notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) regarding Bushra Bibi’s bail application, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, for the upcoming week.
Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb presided over the hearing, during which Bushra Bibi was represented by lawyers Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry and Barrister Khadija Siddiqui.
The lawyer for Bushra Bibi stated that the applicant is a woman who has been in custody since July 13. In response, Justice Aurangzeb acknowledged that he had reviewed the case file.
The lawyer continued, explaining that Bushra Bibi’s post-arrest bail application had been denied by the trial court, prompting them to approach the high court.
The Islamabad High Court stated that a notice had been issued regarding the bail application and that the case would be scheduled for a hearing next week.
Bushra Bibi’s lawyer requested that the bail hearing be set for Monday. Justice Aurangzeb remarked that matters should proceed in routine order.
Subsequently, the court postponed the hearing until next week, with the registrar’s office to set a new date.
It is noteworthy that charges have yet to be formally filed against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case.
**Background**
On September 12, a three-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was formed by the FIA to investigate the Toshakhana case. Following the Supreme Court’s ruling on amendments to the NAB laws, the accountability court transferred the Toshakhana reference against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi from NAB to the FIA.
Earlier, the court had ordered the transfer of the Toshakhana reference records to the Special Central Judge’s court.
On July 13, NAB arrested Imran Khan and his wife shortly after they were granted bail in a separate marriage-related case, in connection with a new reference concerning the Toshakhana case.
According to NAB’s inquiry report, the new case involves the illegal possession and sale of ten valuable gifts, including seven watches.
