Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the actions of the Practice and Procedure Committee in the absence of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
According to Dawn News, PTI’s Additional Secretary General, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, filed a petition in the Supreme Court through lawyer Ali Zafar.
The petition requests that the decisions made by the Practice and Procedure Committee on September 23 and October 1, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Aminuddin, be declared illegal.
The petition also calls for the judicial proceedings, orders, and actions related to the decisions from September 23 and October 1 to be deemed unlawful.
PTI’s Secretary General has included the Secretary of the Interior and the Registrar of the Supreme Court as parties in the petition.
It is noteworthy that the first meeting of the committee was held on September 23 following the issuance of the Practice and Procedure Ordinance. This committee comprises Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and Justice Aminuddin Khan.
However, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah left the judges’ committee meeting without attending due to reservations about the amending ordinance, while Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Aminuddin Khan attended the meeting.
Later, Justice Munib Akhtar recused himself from the bench hearing the review petition related to Article 63-A, after which the Practice and Procedure Committee included Justice Naeem Akhtar in his place.
