Geneva / Islamabad: Pakistan Celebrates 70th Anniversary of CERN
Pakistan recently participated in special events held in Geneva, Switzerland, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), in collaboration with the international scientific community.
CERN organized these special events to commemorate the remarkable discoveries made in the field of particle physics over the past seven decades, with delegations from 39 countries participating. The Pakistani delegation was led by Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
During the events, Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar emphasized Pakistan’s longstanding partnership with CERN in meetings with key representatives from other countries. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting scientific research and technological innovation through international collaborations.
He noted that as Asia’s first associate member state, Pakistan plays a crucial role in several significant research projects and advanced scientific infrastructure at CERN. Pakistan has been an associate member since 2015.
Dr. Anwar highlighted that prominent Pakistani scientific institutions, including the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, HMC3, PINS Tech, the National Center for Physics, COMSATS, and NUST University, are closely collaborating with CERN and actively participating in various experiments.
In 2024, Pakistan will organize four special events to mark CERN’s 70th anniversary, showcasing three decades of joint scientific cooperation between Pakistan and CERN.
Dr. Raja Ali asserted that Pakistan will continue to play a key role in CERN’s significant scientific endeavors and is committed to enhancing its active participation in the field of particle physics, while fostering international collaborations for the betterment of humanity.
