Riyadh: Pakistani citizen Nadeem Shehzad, who was sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia for heroin smuggling, was executed today.
According to Saudi media, Nadeem Shehzad was executed in Dammam after being found guilty of smuggling heroin. He was provided with full legal assistance and the right to appeal.
A statement from the Ministry of Interior confirmed that Nadeem Shehzad was caught red-handed while attempting to sell heroin. After a trial that lasted more than a year, he was sentenced to death, a sentence he later challenged in both the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.
However, both courts upheld the death sentence.
It’s worth noting that Saudi Arabia enforces the death penalty for heroin smuggling, typically carried out by beheading. Saudi Arabia remains one of the countries with the highest rate of executions, drawing criticism from human rights organizations worldwide.
