Washington: Hurricane Helen has severely disrupted life in five U.S. states—Florida, Georgia, Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
According to international news agencies, Hurricane Helen’s powerful winds have devastated everything in their path across the affected states. Schools and offices have been forced to shut down.
The continuous rain, combined with the hurricane’s fierce winds, has brought life to a standstill. Roads resemble ponds, bridges have been destroyed, and millions of residents are without electricity.
Communication systems in the affected regions have also been crippled. The financial losses are expected to reach up to $100 billion, and over 90 fatalities have been confirmed.
Restoration efforts are underway, though officials estimate that it may take 5 to 7 days to fully restore the areas. The weather department has predicted continued rain for the next couple of days.
Citizens are advised to avoid the coastlines until the storm subsides, while municipal services and hospitals remain on high alert.
