A global analysis has found that children’s eyesight is deteriorating rapidly, with one in three now unable to see distant objects clearly.
Researchers suggest that the COVID-19 lockdowns had a negative impact on children’s vision, as they spent more time in front of screens and less time outdoors.
The study warns that myopia, or nearsightedness, is becoming a growing global health concern, expected to affect millions more children by 2050.
The situation is particularly severe in Asia, with 85% of children in Japan and 73% in South Korea suffering from myopia, while over 40% of children in China and Russia are also affected.
