New York: China has once again called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, emphasizing that powerful nations cannot replace justice with oppression.
During the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted that the plight of Palestine remains the deepest wound on humanity’s conscience.
He stressed that “power cannot take the place of justice,” pointing to the growing loss of innocent lives in Gaza and the resumption of war in Lebanon. Wang Yi asserted that the long-standing demand for an independent Palestinian state must not be ignored, and the Palestinians, victims of historical injustice, should no longer be sidelined.
The Chinese foreign minister’s remarks came as Israel continues its brutal operations in Gaza, with the situation escalating to direct bombing in Lebanon, which recently claimed the life of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, since October 7 of last year, Israel’s actions have resulted in the deaths of over 41,500 Palestinians, with thousands more injured and millions displaced.
On the Ukraine conflict, Wang Yi emphasized that China is committed to dialogue and is not fueling the flames of the conflict. He affirmed Beijing’s constructive role in mediating for peace, rejecting the idea that China is exploiting the situation for its own interests.
He also advocated for the formation of a “Group of Friends for Peace” in Ukraine at the UN, while calling for reforms in the United Nations, assuring China’s cooperation in this process.
