Karachi: The installation of e-gates at the country’s airports has faced delays, prompting an extension of the tender deadline to October 10. Previously, interested companies were invited to submit their applications by August 13.
According to Express News, the project aimed at facilitating faster immigration through the installation of e-gates at international airports has been hindered. The Pakistan Airports Authority has issued a notification regarding the extension of the tender deadline.
Sources reveal that due to the short timeline, no bids were received for the multi-billion-rupee e-gates project, which led to this extension.
The Government of Pakistan had directed the Airports Authority to implement e-gates for providing the fastest immigration services to passengers at all international airports, including Karachi Airport.
Under these directives, applications were sought from interested companies until August 13. The first phase of the e-gate border control system was set to be installed at Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad airports, which will significantly enhance the immigration experience for travelers.
Passengers will need to scan their passports at the e-gates. Unlike traditional methods, this modern facility will save time during immigration and allow travelers to bypass long queues after entering the airport lounge. In light of this initiative, the Passport Department has also started issuing e-passports to further streamline the process.
