Washington: The American Muslim group, Emgage Action, has endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, stating that former President Donald Trump poses a significant threat to their community.
According to a report by Reuters, the Muslim advocacy group highlighted Trump’s past promises to impose travel bans that would primarily affect Muslim-majority countries.
In the 2020 election, the group initially supported Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders before endorsing President Joe Biden, claiming to have mobilized 1 million Muslim voters during that presidential campaign.
Kamala Harris has already garnered support from several smaller Muslim groups, including the Black Muslim Leadership Council Fund and American Muslim Democratic Caucus.
As of now, Trump’s campaign has not responded to this development; however, he has expressed intentions to reinstate travel bans that would restrict entry to the U.S. from several countries, most of which are Muslim-majority.
After being elected president, Biden rescinded this policy in 2021, facing criticism from Trump in the process.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration is under pressure from fellow Democrats and international allies to urge Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian conflict.
American officials reported in June that since the onset of the Gaza conflict last October, the U.S. has supplied Israel with over 10,000 bombs weighing 2,000 pounds (900 kilograms) each, along with thousands of Hellfire missiles.
It is important to note that Israel’s ongoing brutal campaign in Gaza has resulted in over 41,000 Palestinian deaths and millions injured, with approximately 2.3 million people displaced from their homes.
