Muslims across India are rallying against Islamophobia, with thousands marching towards Mumbai under the banner of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM). In India, minorities, particularly Muslims, are facing discrimination and hostility from extremist Hindu groups. The rise in incitement against Muslims and religious extremism has become alarmingly evident.
Targeted by Prime Minister Modi’s rhetoric of hatred and religious fanaticism, Muslims have begun to speak out against communal intolerance. AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel is leading a march with over 12,000 Muslims towards Mumbai. The protesters are demanding action against BJP MLA Nitish Rane and Hindu follower Ram Giri Maharaj for their hate speech.
It’s important to note that last month, both Nitish Rane and Ram Giri Maharaj made incendiary speeches against Muslims, even issuing threats to kill them. Several cases have been filed against Rane in Maharashtra for his derogatory remarks targeting Muslims, and lawyer Wasi Syed has also filed a petition in the High Court regarding this issue.
The marching protesters stated that they are being cornered under government patronage, a situation they deem utterly unacceptable. They are calling for action against those spreading religious incitement.
Imtiaz Jaleel commented that the government has forgotten religion and culture, which is why they are heading to Mumbai to remind the authorities. He accused the government of playing politics based on religion and caste while Muslims are openly insulted. He emphasized that both the government and police remain silent amidst this hateful politics.
While Indian Muslims are vigorously protesting for their religious rights, one must question whether international human rights organizations will take any action against Modi’s government.
