Red-ball format head coach Jason Gillespie has addressed the decision to drop domestic performer Kamran Ghulam from the squad for the upcoming home series against England.
Despite a stellar performance in the Champions One Day Cup, where Ghulam amassed a mountain of runs even with star players in the tournament, he was excluded from the squad for the England series after being part of the team for the home series against Bangladesh.
During commentary in the Champions Cup, former cricketer Salman Butt questioned Gillespie on why Kamran Ghulam was dropped despite his consistent performances.
Gillespie responded, saying, “I have seen him [Kamran Ghulam] perform for Pakistan Shaheens in Darwin, and his performance is commendable. However, for the England series, we want to trust the current squad.”
The head coach advised Ghulam to continue representing his teams in the Champions One Day Cup and the President’s Cup to maintain his form.
On the other hand, fans have expressed frustration, criticizing the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee for repeatedly overlooking players like Ghulam. Many believe such decisions can demoralize players who consistently perform at the domestic level.
