Former Test cricketer Basit Ali has made a significant prediction regarding the future of Pakistan’s current white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali shared his views on the future of the national team’s white-ball format under the South African coach. He predicted that Kirsten, who is 56 years old, will likely be relieved of his duties after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
He emphasized that if Kirsten manages to guide Pakistan’s cricket team to a top-four finish in the Champions Trophy, it would be considered a major achievement for the country.
Earlier this year, Gary Kirsten took over coaching responsibilities, but under his supervision, Pakistan’s performance in the T20 World Cup was extremely disappointing, with the team even suffering a shocking defeat to the emerging side of the USA, leading to their exit from the tournament.
Basit Ali commented that Kirsten is fortunate to be leading Pakistan into the Champions Trophy, but believes his departure is almost certain after the tournament.
Kirsten, known for his previous coaching success, was a key figure in leading India to victory in the 2011 World Cup. Recently, he participated in a critical PCB meeting addressing issues such as workload management and team unity.
