Singapore: Social media platform TikTok has removed accounts associated with Russian state media outlets RT and Sputnik.
According to media reports, TikTok stated that these accounts were attempting to influence people negatively in secret, which violates the platform’s rules.
As a result of this ban, users will no longer be able to see content from these news organizations on TikTok.
In an official announcement on its website, TikTok explained that it is shutting down accounts linked to RT and Sputnik due to their involvement in covert influence operations that breach community guidelines.
The platform also noted that, under its global policy concerning state-affiliated media, the content from these organizations was deemed ineligible for the “For You” feed. This action aims to limit efforts to sway foreign audiences on global events and issues.
This move underscores TikTok’s commitment to maintaining a safe and trustworthy environment for its users amidst ongoing concerns over misinformation and influence operations.
