Bangladesh’s all-rounder and captain Shakib Al Hasan has received the green light to participate in the upcoming home series against South Africa.
Media reports indicate that Shakib was accused of murder in Dhaka on August 23, following the death of a garment factory worker, with the victim’s father filing a case against him at a local police station.
The murder charge was registered while Shakib was on tour in Pakistan, which led him to return home without joining his team; instead, he traveled to England. He later rejoined the team in Delhi for the series against India.
Regarding Shakib’s availability for the home series, Bangladesh Cricket Board Operations Chief Shariar Nafees stated that there are no issues with him playing at home. He emphasized that the government has made it clear that no one should be unfairly harassed.
Nafees added that being left out due to injury or poor form is a different matter, but there is no problem with Shakib participating in the matches. The government’s legal advisor has assured that Shakib will not be arrested upon his return.
It’s important to note that South Africa is set to tour Bangladesh in October for a two-match Test series, with the first Test scheduled for October 21 and the second for October 29.
