Under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi, the Lions team faced a fine for slow over rate during their Champions ODI match against the Dolphins.
In the match played at Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad, the Lions lost to the Dolphins by 16 runs, marking the Dolphins’ first victory in the event.
According to a statement released by the PCB, the Lions were fined for their slow over rate in the match on September 22. On-field umpires Faisal Afridi and Imtiaz Iqbal reported that the Lions bowled one over short of the allotted time.
All 11 players of Shaheen Shah Afridi’s team were penalized 5% of their match fees in accordance with Article 2.22 of the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The Dolphins set a target of 327 runs after scoring 326. However, to qualify for the playoffs, the Lions needed to score 260 or more runs. They managed to put up only 310 runs in their allotted overs, falling short by 16 runs.
Despite the loss, Shaheen’s team has successfully qualified for the playoff stage. They will face the Stallions in Wednesday’s eliminator, while the first qualifier will see the Markhors take on the Panthers on Tuesday.
