The Indian cricket team has made history by defeating Bangladesh in the first Test, marking a significant milestone in its 92-year cricketing journey.
In the Chennai Test, India triumphed over Bangladesh by a massive margin of 280 runs, becoming the first team in Test cricket to surpass the number of defeats with victories. This achievement took India a long 92 years to accomplish.
India’s journey in Test cricket began in 1932 under the captaincy of C.K. Nayudu, when they faced a 158-run defeat against England in their inaugural match. Since that moment, the Indian team has struggled to balance its win-loss ratio.
To date, India has played a total of 581 Test matches, securing 179 wins and facing 178 losses.
In contrast, Pakistan reached this milestone in just 16 matches after entering Test cricket, while other teams achieved it over varying timelines. Australia claimed this honor in their very first match, while Afghanistan did so in just three matches, England in 23, West Indies in 99, and South Africa in 340 matches.
Currently, Pakistan has recorded 148 wins and 144 losses, whereas Australia has 414 wins against 232 losses, and England has 397 wins with 325 losses.
This historic achievement marks a new chapter for Indian cricket, showcasing their resilience and determination over nearly a century.
