The federal government has raised the house rent allowance limit for all employees from grade one to 22 by 45% in six cities, with the highest increase allocated for Islamabad.
According to a report by Dawn, the notification issued by the Ministry of Housing and Works states that the revised rent limits will apply to employees and officers of federal ministries, divisions, attached departments, and sub-offices located in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar.
Under the revised rates, the rent limit for grade 22 employees in Islamabad is set at PKR 142,743 per month, while for all other cities (including the provincial capitals and Rawalpindi) it is PKR 125,989 per month. Previously, these limits were PKR 98,444 and PKR 89,230, respectively.
For grade 21 government employees, the rent limit in Islamabad has increased from PKR 82,261 to PKR 119,278, and from PKR 71,107 to PKR 98,378 in other cities.
Similarly, for grade 20 employees, the rent limit in Islamabad has risen from PKR 68,700 to PKR 99,615, and for other cities from PKR 59,079 to PKR 82,696.
Grade 19 officers will now be entitled to monthly rent of PKR 79,320 in Islamabad and PKR 65,542 in other cities, up from PKR 54,704 and PKR 46,816, respectively.
Additionally, the rent limit for grade 17 and 18 employees is set at PKR 59,669 in Islamabad and PKR 49,808 in other cities.
For grades 14 to 16 employees, the rent has been established at PKR 45,073 in Islamabad and PKR 37,665 in other cities, an increase from the previous limits of PKR 31,085 and PKR 27,134.
Employees in grades 11 to 13 can now claim PKR 35,878 per month in Islamabad and PKR 30,815 in other cities.
For grades 7 to 10, the rent limits have been increased from PKR 16,403 to PKR 23,784 in Islamabad and from PKR 14,682 to PKR 20,112 in other cities.
Furthermore, federal employees in grades 3 to 6 can now receive PKR 15,921 for rent in Islamabad and PKR 13,230 in other cities.
Finally, the monthly rent for grade 1 and 2 employees will now be PKR 10,192 in Islamabad and PKR 9,590 in other cities.
