The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Sindh government, federal government, and other parties regarding an application for the transfer of the Jinnah Postgraduate Centre from federal to provincial control.
During a recent hearing, the petitioners, represented by lawyers for doctors and paramedical staff, argued that according to a Supreme Court ruling from 2019, Jinnah Hospital was not to be transferred to the federal government. The Supreme Court had maintained that even post-18th Amendment, Jinnah Hospital cannot be assigned to the Sindh government.
The petitioners’ lawyer pointed out that, despite higher court orders, non-commissioned officers are being assigned to roles at the JPMS Postgraduate Medical and Research Institute, disadvantaging original employees. The Sindh government is allegedly appointing retired and favored non-commissioned officers to various departments, thereby depriving JPMS employees of their rights and halting their promotions.
The employees’ lawyer requested the establishment of a higher authority under the name of teaching faculty at Jinnah Hospital, as well as the enforcement of the Supreme Court’s order to transfer Jinnah Hospital to the federal government and to halt Sindh government’s interference.
In response, the court has sought replies from the Sindh government, federal government, and other relevant parties.
