A recent rally for former President Donald Trump in Tucson, Arizona, resulted in multiple attendees, including prominent figures, reporting severe eye injuries and persistent symptoms. The event, held last week at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall, saw several individuals, particularly those seated onstage behind Trump, experiencing sudden eye irritation and other symptoms.
Mayra Rodriguez, a former Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life advocate, was among those who suffered significant eye injuries. Initially dismissing the irritation as allergies, Rodriguez sought emergency medical care when her symptoms worsened to the point of near-blindness. Hospital staff suggested her condition resembled a chemical burn. “At first, I thought it was just allergies, but by the time I got home, I couldn’t see anything when I tried to open my eyes,” Rodriguez reported, noting that she needed to use a cold cloth for relief.
Rodriguez’s experience was echoed by other rallygoers, including a brother and sister who experienced similar symptoms of redness, burning, and facial swelling. Pastor Eli Moreno and his wife, Francesca, also reported eye injuries and sought medical treatment.
The cause of these symptoms remains uncertain. Some attendees speculated that they might have been exposed to a chemical substance, as the injuries resembled chemical burns. However, no official confirmation has been made, and the US Secret Service reported no known threats to Trump during the rally.
Danielle Alvarez, Senior Advisor to the Trump campaign, acknowledged the incidents and stated, “The Trump campaign has been collecting information. We remain committed to the countless patriots that attend our high-energy, high-impact rallies across the country.”
While the investigation into the cause of the injuries continues, rally attendees affected by the incident are focused on their recovery. Earlier unconfirmed reports of an explosive device found during security checks at a separate rally site on Long Island were dismissed by law enforcement as unfounded.
Nassau County Police and acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe have confirmed there was no validity to the explosive device reports, and significant resources are being allocated to ensure Trump’s safety, especially following a recent assassination attempt in West Palm Beach.
Trump’s team has been seeking additional security support following recent attempts on his life, and they promise to keep attendees updated as more information becomes available.
