ISLAMABAD: On World Ozone Day, Pakistan has announced the successful elimination of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and is actively working towards phasing out hydro-chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), according to a climate change expert from the Ministry of Climate Change.
“Our commitment to a greener and healthier future is unwavering,” stated Mohammad Saleem Shaikh, a specialist in climate change education at the ministry, emphasizing Pakistan’s contributions under the Montreal Protocol towards the recovery of the ozone layer and national climate goals.
Meanwhile, Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Climate Change, called on the global community to maintain focus on sustainable development, urging industries and citizens to adopt climate-resilient practices and renewable technologies to protect the ozone layer.
She stressed the importance of ongoing efforts to safeguard the planet, warning that the continued use of harmful chemicals in some regions threatens progress made in restoring the ozone layer, which protects the Earth from harmful ultraviolet rays.
