Tommy Cash, a lifelong country musician and younger brother of the legendary Johnny Cash, has passed away at the age of 84. The country music icon, known for collaborating with fellow legends like Hank Williams Jr. throughout his decades-long career, died on Friday, September 13.
The news of his passing was shared by the Johnny Cash Museum in an Instagram post on Saturday, September 14, with a heartfelt message: “We are saddened to announce that the world lost a bright light last evening with the passing of Tommy Cash.”
Bill Miller, the museum’s founder, expressed his grief in a statement, noting, “I lost a very, very dear friend last evening. I knew him for over 50 years.” He added that Tommy was not only a loyal supporter of the Johnny Cash Museum but also “a very beloved member of our extended family and a highly respected member of the music industry.”
Tommy Cash began his professional career in 1965 after signing his first record deal with Musicor. Later, he signed with United Artists Records, releasing hits such as “I Didn’t Walk the Line,” a nod to his brother Johnny’s famous track, “I Walk the Line.”
