Six people, including five members of the same family, lost their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as heavy rains and strong winds wreaked havoc across the province, damaging homes in multiple incidents.
Anwar Shahzada, spokesperson for KP’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), reported that the rain began Friday morning and continued into the second day. In Charsadda district, a house collapsed due to the downpour, killing five family members, including three children, a woman, and her husband. Rescue 1122 retrieved their bodies and transported them to a nearby hospital.
In a separate incident in Upper Dir, a man was killed after being struck by lightning the same night. Additionally, two houses were damaged by the extreme weather, prompting authorities to stay on high alert as more rains are expected.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed their grief over the tragic loss of lives and instructed authorities to initiate relief efforts for the affected families.
According to PDMA data, from July 1 to September 14, 107 people have lost their lives, 146 have been injured, and 977 houses have been damaged due to heavy rains, landslides, and flash floods. The PDMA urged locals and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during the current weather conditions to prevent further incidents.
