Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute on Saturday to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for its unwavering sacrifices and professional excellence on Air Force Day, observed on September 7, a day after the nation celebrates Defence Day.
On Friday, Pakistan marked its 59th Defence Day to honor the sacrifices of the heroes of the 1965 war against India. Ceremonies, including a change of guards, were held at major sites such as the Quaid’s mausoleum in Karachi and Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum in Lahore.
State-owned Radio Pakistan recalled that on this day in 1965, Indian forces crossed the international border under the cover of darkness to attack Pakistan, but the nation successfully thwarted their plans.
The prime minister praised the bravery and valor of PAF personnel, who, despite being outnumbered, repelled the enemy’s aggression. “On September 7, 1965, the PAF’s Shaheens made history with their courage and bravery,” he said in a statement.
He specifically highlighted the heroics of Muhammad Mahmood Alam, who famously downed five enemy aircraft in less than a minute.
In a post on his official X timeline, the prime minister saluted the courageous air warriors and their families on Air Force Day. “Pakistan takes pride in the courage, dedication, and commitment demonstrated by its Air Force,” he stated. “Their exceptional service ensures that our skies remain safe, and their determination and valor contribute to a stronger Pakistan.”
