PESHAWAR: Three suspected militants were killed and four security personnel injured during an operation in the Tiaraza tehsil of Upper South Waziristan district on Saturday.
According to sources, the militants allegedly attacked security forces in the Sholam/Toorwam area of Tiaraza. In response, the security forces retaliated, killing three militants. Four security personnel sustained injuries and were transported to the Frontier Corps Hospital.
Following the attack, the area was cordoned off, and a search operation was launched to locate any remaining attackers. Weapons were recovered from the slain militants.
Ongoing Operations Against Foreign Militants in Tirah Valley
Separately, in Miramshah, North Waziristan, two rockets fired from an unknown location struck a helipad, injuring two security personnel. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation.
No official statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) was available at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, a senior official from the military’s Special Services Group (SSG) revealed that a series of intelligence-based operations (IBOs) have been underway against foreign militants who infiltrated Pakistan from Afghanistan since August 20. The militants, associated with the banned Lashkar-i-Islam and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, entered Tirah Valley of the Khyber district through the Koh-i-Sufaid region.
The official noted that in these IBOs, the SSG and light commandos successfully neutralized numerous foreign militants, including a key leader, Abu Dhr alias Saddam. The security forces launched a robust offensive against the militants, who had established several hideouts in the Tirah Valley.
“With the growing number of foreign terrorists in Tirah Valley, the SSG has been tasked with clearing the area of militants,” the official said. He emphasized that an integrated strategy was in place to minimize losses to both the local population and security forces.
Despite challenging conditions, including difficult terrain and extreme weather, the SSG and light commandos were deployed to destroy militant strongholds in the valley. “We inflicted heavy losses on the enemy,” said a platoon commander, reaffirming the security forces’ commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the local population against militant threats.
