ISLAMABAD: Following a meeting between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) on Friday night, PTI leader Asad Qaiser announced that both parties have decided to collaborate on an “issue-to-issue and agenda-to-agenda” basis.
The meeting, held at JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence, was led by PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and aimed at fostering unity among opposition parties in preparation for critical National Assembly and Senate sessions.
Qaiser stated that the initial phase of their joint strategy involves blocking “controversial” legislation that the government plans to introduce in parliament next week. No official response has been provided by JUI-F regarding the outcomes of the meeting.
PTI’s delegation included Shibli Faraz and Information Secretary Raoof Hasan, while Maulana Fazl was accompanied by Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai, and Aslam Ghouri. The discussion occurred just before the government convened sessions of the National Assembly and Senate on Monday and Tuesday.
Both parties have designated representatives for parliamentary coordination: PTI’s Gohar and Senator Faraz, and JUI-F’s MNA Ghafoor Haideri and Senator Kamran Murtaza.
The meeting is considered significant given Maulana Fazl’s previous stance against forming a formal alliance. He had previously indicated that JUI-F would act independently while still cooperating with opposition parties on shared concerns.
Qaiser confirmed that no formal alliance was discussed, emphasizing that their agreement focuses solely on issue-based cooperation within parliament.
