RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for heavy rains across various regions of the country from August 25 to 29.
The advisory highlights that a low-pressure system currently over West Bengal is expected to move westward and reach the southern coasts of Pakistan by August 25. This weather system will bring strong monsoon currents, resulting in widespread rainfall, wind, and thunderstorms across Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, and other southern cities.
In Balochistan, similar conditions are anticipated from August 26 to 30, affecting Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbela, and other areas. Punjab and Islamabad will experience downpours from August 25 to 28, impacting cities like Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Faisalabad.
Northern regions, including Neelum Valley and Gilgit, are expected to receive rainfall from August 25 to 28, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see similar weather from August 26 to 28.
The PMD has also warned of potential flash flooding in low-lying areas of Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab, with hill torrents likely in various regions. Coastal flooding along the Sindh-Makran coast is anticipated from August 26 to 29. Heavy rains may trigger landslides in hilly areas.
Authorities, including the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), have been advised to prepare for possible flooding and flash floods. The local administrations in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur are instructed to make necessary arrangements.
Meanwhile, in Lahore, mixed weather conditions were observed, with some areas receiving rainfall.
**Damages in Balochistan:** Activist Hameeda Noor criticized the lack of action from authorities in Nasirabad, Balochistan, following recent floods. She urged the PDMA to improve its response and allocation of resources to protect affected areas, highlighting ongoing issues with inadequate drainage and delayed infrastructure projects.
