Governor Greg Abbott has announced his leadership of an economic development mission to Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan, organized by the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office and the Texas Economic Development Corporation.
During this trip, Governor Abbott plans to engage with leading businesses and government officials to garner support for industries crucial to the global economy’s future. This initiative marks Governor Abbott’s continued efforts in economic development, following previous missions to Cuba, France, India, Israel, Japan, Mexico, and the United Kingdom since assuming office.
In recent endeavors, Governor Abbott successfully signed economic development agreements between Texas and France, as well as Texas and the United Kingdom, aimed at boosting trade and attracting foreign direct investments to Texas. This upcoming visit will mark his inaugural trip to Taiwan and South Korea and his third visit to Japan.
South Korea stands as Texas’s fourth-largest trading partner overall, with Japan following as the state’s fifth-largest, and Taiwan as the seventh-largest.
Accompanying Governor Abbott on this mission will be First Lady Cecilia Abbott, Secretary of State Jane Nelson, a delegation comprising five Texas legislators, and 23 leaders from various business and community sectors in Texas. Gromer Jeffers from The Dallas Morning News will serve as the Texas pool reporter during the delegation.
“As Texas continues to pioneer advancements in freedom and opportunity through collaborative economic development, we are offering critical and emerging industries like semiconductors and advanced manufacturing the resources and prospects to flourish both nationally and globally,” Governor Abbott stated. “I eagerly anticipate productive discussions with business and government leaders in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan to fortify our economic and cultural partnerships, driving forward innovation and prosperity together.”
