HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office assistant chief was unharmed after carjacking suspects fired at him on a freeway during the evening rush hour, authorities reported.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon on inbound U.S. 290 at Huffmeister Road. According to preliminary information from Precinct 5, the assistant chief observed two suspects breaking into cars.
The suspects fled, and the assistant chief pursued them. During the chase, the suspects shot at the assistant chief but did not hit him. The suspects then managed to escape.
In an update at 8 p.m., Precinct 5 announced that a woman believed to be involved in the shooting was taken into custody.
The police activity prompted a Gridlock Alert on the U.S. 290 inbound main and frontage road lanes, with three frontage lanes closed for the investigation.
