A $2 million bond was set for Aarion Morris, 39, who was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly shooting and killing 27-year-old Jonathan Berto of Corinth in Lewisville, according to Lewisville Police.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 9, around 5 p.m. when police responded to reports of a deceased person along the northbound service road in the 1200 block of South IH-35E. Upon arrival, officers discovered Berto’s body, which had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Morris was apprehended without incident on Tuesday, June 11, at a residence in the 1800 block of Range Drive in Mesquite. He was subsequently booked into Lewisville City Jail on charges of murder.
Lewisville Police Chief Brook Rollins expressed condolences to Berto’s family and friends, acknowledging the tragic nature of the incident. He commended the efforts of officers, detectives, and support personnel involved in swiftly resolving the case with an arrest.
Berto’s mother, Rosa Berto Chapa, shared that her son had recently embraced fatherhood and was looking forward to celebrating his first Father’s Day with his five-month-old daughter. She described his death as unjust, emphasizing that he did not deserve such a fate.
While police continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the shooting, Chapa indicated that her son’s truck, which was left at the scene, showed signs of a bullet hole. She called for justice for her family, emphasizing the impact on her grandson who will grow up without his father.
