In Houston, Texas, a man was shot and killed by police after he opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call. The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. at The Exchange Apartments on Leona Street, situated just north of downtown.
Upon receiving reports of a domestic dispute and assault in progress, two officers arrived at the scene and proceeded to knock on the suspect’s door. As Assistant Chief Ben Tien stated, the suspect opened the door and immediately began discharging a firearm at the officers.
The officers, fortunately unharmed, took cover and returned fire while nearby residents watched in shock and disbelief. Witnesses described a sudden influx of police activity in the typically quiet neighborhood.
Following the exchange of gunfire, police entered the apartment where they found an uninjured woman along with the deceased suspect, described as a man in his 20s. The suspect was found in possession of two guns, although it was unclear whether he was using both firearms during the altercation.
