The Downtown Rodeo Parade is scheduled for Saturday, February 24th at 10 a.m., kicking off the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo while celebrating Western heritage.
Since 1938, the City of Houston has heralded the start of rodeo season with the Downtown Rodeo Parade. In 1959, became the first to broadcast the parade live, initiating a longstanding partnership between the station and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Channel 13 has televised the parade annually ever since.
In a nod to history, revisited the inaugural televised Rodeo Parade in 1959 during its 55th anniversary in 2014.
This year, will provide comprehensive coverage of the parade, starting at 10 a.m. Anchors Samica Knight and Rita Garcia will ensure viewers don’t miss any of the festivities.
The parade route starts at Bagby and Walker Streets, proceeding from Travis to Bell Street, Bell Street to Louisiana Street, turning onto Lamar Street, and concluding at Lamar and Bagby.
To secure a prime viewing spot along the route, arrive early. Optimal viewing locations include Louisiana from Bell to Lamar, Lamar, and Louisiana to Smith.
Expect street closures on the morning of the parade and the Rodeo Run, commencing at 8:30 a.m. Streets will reopen after the events conclude, around 2 p.m.

The grand marshal for this year’s Downtown Rodeo Parade is none other than Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, founder and CEO of Buc-ee’s. Aplin will be accompanied by the iconic Buc-ee’s mascot, Beaver, who will traverse the parade route alongside the rodeo’s beloved mascot, Howdy.
