HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We are in the middle of what is expected to be Houston’s most intense heat wave since the brutal August of 2011.
Despite that, there is a small (10%) chance for a late afternoon shower or thunderstorm on Thursday! Moisture levels are expected to rise just enough to boost the sea breeze into producing a little rain. That said, most of us will miss out on the rain, and it will get hot everywhere before any shower pops up. Lows will start of near 90 and highs will top 100 for the fifth day in a row.
A Heat Advisory is in effect for all of southeast Texas until at least 9 p.m. Thursday, which means heat index levels could exceed 108.
Is this going to be a repeat of August 2011 when it hit 100 or above on all but one day of the month?
While it’s difficult to predict more than 2 weeks out, we are seeing signs that the heat ridge will stay overhead or nearby for the first 3 weeks of August. Because of that, we are forecasting triple-digit-heat every day for the next 10 days. Hopefully something will change and we’ll get some rain and lower temperatures.
How are rain chances looking for next week?
After Thursday’s 10% chance for a shower, rain chances will drop back close to zero through the weekend and all of next week. We are seeing signs that around the middle of the month the heat ridge might back away just enough to allow some deeper moisture to return and bring a glimmer of hope for rain. We currently have a 20% chance for rain back in the forecast start on Saturday, August 12th.
