HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The cold air is here! It is a frigid morning, with both Freeze Warnings and Hard Freeze Warnings issued across SE Texas.
The Freeze Warning covers the Houston area south to our coastal counties just inland from the immediate coast. Here a light freeze is expected as temps fall to the lower 30s and upper 20s. People, pets, and tender plants need to be cared for.
A Hard Freeze Warning has been issued for tonight for Montgomery County and areas farther north. There, temps are expected to be below freezing for 8-10 hours and fall to the middle 20s. Exposed pipes could burst so you’ll need to cover them and let the water drip a little inside the house.
We’ll get plenty of sunshine today, but high temps will only warm to around 53 degrees this afternoon.
How long will the cold stick around?
It will stay cold through Tuesday morning. By Wednesday afternoon we’ll see high temps back in the mid 70s, but another cold front is in the forecast for Thursday, Jan. 6. This one won’t be quite as strong or cold as the front that moved through this past weekend.
