Two people were killed, including a pilot, when a helicopter crashed and burst into flames near a shopping plaza in Rowlett on Friday morning.
About 11:40 a.m., the Rowlett Police Department said emergency personnel were responding to a crash involving a helicopter on fire in the 2200 block of Lakeview Parkway, near Grisham Drive.
Authorities had surrounded the wreckage with a tarp a short time later.

The Federal Aviation Administration initially confirmed to WFAA-TV (Channel 8) that the pilot was the only person on board; however, Rowlett police later said that another person had died.
Neither of the victims has been identified.
North Texas-based Sky Helicopters told WFAA that the crash involved one of its helicopters.
Witnesses told the station the helicopter’s tail rotor appeared to break in midair before the aircraft hit the ground.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are the leading the investigation.
