The founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have submitted petitions to the Islamabad High Court (IHC), requesting the suspension of their sentences in the 190 million pound reference.
These petitions were filed two months following the verdict’s announcement.
The petitions, presented by Barrister Salman Safdar, contend that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) abused its authority with malicious intent and that the court issued a hasty judgment based on an incomplete investigation.
The petitions further assert that the investigative agency failed to acquire the original agreement text from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), raising concerns regarding the investigation’s transparency. Additionally, it was pointed out that NCA officials were not even involved in the inquiry.
The petitioners argue that the prosecution did not provide comprehensive evidence, and therefore, they have requested the court to suspend the sentence pronounced on January 17 and grant bail until a final determination on the main appeal is reached.
The petition also provided assurance to the court that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi will attend every hearing following the suspension of their sentence.
