RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed 30 terrorists during three separate counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated on Saturday.
According to the military’s media wing, an intelligence-based operation was conducted in the Lakki Marwat district.
“After effectively engaging the terrorists at their location, eighteen khwarij were sent to hell, while six were injured,” the statement said.
In another operation in Karak district, security forces “successfully neutralized eight terrorists.”
In a third encounter in the general area of Bagh, Khyber district, security forces gunned down four terrorists, including ring leaders Aziz ur Rehman alias Qari Ismail and Mukhlis, while two sustained injuries.
“Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed khwarij, who were actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area against security forces and the killing of innocent civilians,” the ISPR said.
The military’s media wing added that sanitization operations were underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists as “Pakistan’s security forces remain determined to eradicate the menace of terrorism.”
President, PM Praise Security Forces
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the bravery of the security forces for eliminating thirty terrorists in three successful operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In separate statements, they lauded the successful operations in Lakki Marwat, Karak, and Khyber districts.
President Zardari called the elimination of thirty terrorists a significant achievement, reaffirming that operations would continue until terrorism is completely eradicated.
He appreciated the ongoing successful operations by the security forces for eliminating terrorism in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz emphasized the nation’s unwavering support for its security forces, reiterating Pakistan’s full commitment to eradicating all forms of terrorism.
2024: Deadliest Year for Pakistan
Following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan saw a surge in violent attacks, particularly in border provinces like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The year 2024 was the deadliest for Pakistan’s civil and military security forces in a decade, with at least 685 fatalities and 444 terror attacks, according to the “CRSS Annual Security Report 2024.”
Civilian and security personnel losses were equally alarming, totaling 1,612 fatalities—over 63% of the year’s recorded casualties. These losses marked a 73% increase compared to 2023.
In 2024, Pakistan endured 2,546 violence-related fatalities and 2,267 injuries. These casualties stemmed from 1,166 incidents of terror attacks and counter-terror operations, marking a grim year for the nation’s security landscape.
