HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A teen was shot and homes and vehicles were caught in the crossfire as two groups of people exchanged gunfire Thursday in west Harris County.
Harris County sheriff’s deputies first responded to Dayflower and Cypress River Thursday afternoon. There they found a 14-year-old boy in the back seat of a car with flat tires and bullet holes in it. He was taken to the hospital.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the teen was shot in the leg and the wound was not life-threatening.
Detectives believe the car was full of people but once it was disabled, they jumped out and ran. There was another group of people on the street on Montclair Meadow, which is around the corner from the first scene, and that’s where the two groups were shooting at each other, detectives said.
Neighbors told ABC13 they heard eight to 10 gunshots. Several homes and cars were hit, including Tierra and Robert Daniels’ SUV.
“I’m still in shock,” said Robert Daniels as he showed ABC13 the bullet hole in the hood of the vehicle.
“It’s in broad daylight. It’s not like they’re trying to do anything in the dark. They’re doing it in the open and it’s sad,” said a frustrated Tierra Daniels.
According to Detective Isaac Barnett with the HCSO Violent Crimes Unit, several people were detained, including adults and juveniles. Firearms were also recovered.
No other injuries were reported.
