Kyiv β Russia has launched a major wave of dozens of missile and drone attacks targeting Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure and civilian residential buildings, resulting in the deaths of at least six people and leaving numerous others wounded. These latest assaults are viewed as renewed efforts by Russia to cripple Ukraine’s military capabilities and civil services.
Casualties and Damage Report:
Ukrainian authorities confirmed that the attacks struck over 25 locations across the country, including the capital, Kyiv.
- Dnipro: An attack on a residential building claimed the lives of two people and injured twelve.
- Zaporizhzhia: Attacks in this region resulted in the deaths of three individuals.
The Ukrainian Prime Minister reported significant damage to large energy facilities in the Kharkiv and Kyiv regions, leading to power outages in several areas. The Ministry of Energy confirmed the power disruptions, including in Dnipro, and stated that restoration work is underway.
The Aerial Conflict:
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched over 450 drones and 45 missiles during the nighttime assault. The Air Force claimed success in destroying 406 of the drones and 9 missiles.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defence claimed its forces successfully shot down 79 Ukrainian drones. Russian officials maintain that the attacks on energy centers are intended to degrade Ukraineβs military potential.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to the international community, stating that following these attacks, there should be no easing of Western sanctions imposed on Russiaβs energy sector.
