Peshawar, Pakistan β Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi issued a stern warning that the country will suffer irreparable damage if the democratic mandate of the people is negated. He called for an end to the current ‘politics of abuse’ and the suppression of discord in the prevailing political atmosphere.
Addressing members of the Awam Pakistan Party at the Peshawar Press Club, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi clarified that his party’s core objective is not merely to seek power or position, but to benefit the nation and resolve its crises. He maintained that the only way for Pakistan to progress is through strict adherence to the law and the Constitution.
Concerns over Youth Crisis
The former Prime Minister expressed deep anxiety regarding the future of the nation’s youth, stating that if issues related to education and business opportunities are not resolved, the young population will become the heaviest burden on the country. He urged all political stakeholders to exercise patience and tolerance during this challenging period.
Potential Governor’s Rule and Constitutional Respect
Addressing the current political tension, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi pointed out the potential for Governor’s Rule to be imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which could also extend to other provinces. However, he reiterated his main point: “The negation of the public’s mandate will harm the country,” citing the unfortunate reality that public opinion is currently not respected. He advocated that any constitutional amendment must be made with the clear consensus of the people.
He stressed the importance of avoiding the politics of mutual blame, as it fails to solve the publicβs problems and only fuels discord. Regarding external challenges, he advised that attacks originating from neighboring Afghanistan should be addressed through dialogue rather than war. Abbasi concluded by asserting that the Awam Pakistan Party is the only faction advocating for national cohesion, urging everyone to play their part and ensure no province, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is neglected.
